About My Prints

All of the photography I have for sale is created the old fashioned way—on film! From there I utilize a hybrid process and have all of the prints I offer for sale created from digital files made from scanning my film negatives. If I ever have the time and space for a wet darkroom again I'll probably set one up and also offer limited editions of hand-made traditional, silver based, fiber prints for sale.

Until that time comes though, digital it is. Don't let that scare you away though.

Having a history in darkroom printing, I used to feel guilty about selling my photography using the common, plastic feeling digital printing paper that most people selling their photography use. The look and feel of the print just wasn't what I liked from a traditional fiber based print. Selling those felt like selling an inferior product, and I didn't want any of that.

That changed once I got some work printed on Museo Silver Rag and Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk papers. These are very heavy papers for inkjet* printing which have the same look and feel as a silver gelatin fiber print. It isn't cheap to get my photos printed on this paper, but the results meets the quality standard that I need to be comfortable to have my photography for sale without feeling as though I am selling you a sub-par piece of art.

*It seems to me that many artists who have their photography for sale like to sling the term giclée to make the process they use sound mysterious. I like to use the common word inkjet instead since you are probably more familiar with it. No fears though, even though my prints are technically inkjet, they aren't the same as what you'd get from that $50 printer you purchased at Office Max. The print you receive will be created on a professional grade printers with the best in archival inks. They're hott.
